Delivering relief to Fitzroy Crossing – Feature by ABC News Western Australia

ABC News in Western Australia has reported on Humanihut's involvement in the flood recovery effort, with Humanihut providing up to 100 temporary accommodation units to house Fitzroy Crossing residents who lost their homes in January’s flood.

Humanihut Managing Director Neale Sutton said the rigid deployable shelters were designed for temporary use.

"It's a short-term accommodation fix to support local residents until they can eventually get back into their homes," he said.

"It provides a comfortable, air-conditioned place to live while recovery efforts continue by the West Australian government."

Mr Sutton said large family units were not considered in the initial designs, but work was being done to accommodate bigger groups.

"They’re not currently configured to accommodate large families, but the next iteration, now nearing completion, has been designed with significantly larger rooms to better support extended or multi-generational family groups."

The Humanihut Field Infrastructure System has been deployed in a range of settings, including accommodation for emergency responders during emergency events, quarantine and isolation facilities, and housing for construction and regional workers, both in Australia and overseas.

Mr Sutton said that local communities were actively consulted to identify appropriate locations and ensure the set-up met cultural expectations.

"Whether we are operating in the Middle East or here in Australia, we engage closely with local communities to ensure our work is culturally respectful and responsive," he said.
