No roads? No problems. Humanihut overcomes logistical hurdles in Far North Queensland, Australia

Deploying to cyclone-affected Far North Queensland presented a unique set of logistical challenges for Humnaihut, particularly with widespread road damage rendering point-to-point delivery by road trains unfeasible.

Through a coordinated effort involving Federal, State, and local governments, as well as the vital support of the Australian Defence Force, Humanihut successfully delivered emergency shelter infrastructure to Ayton. This was achieved using a combination of Chinook helicopters, Army and privately contracted barges, and local heavy lifting equipment and transport trucks, highlighting the strength of collaborative emergency response in difficult and isolated conditions.

All of this work was carried out while the region was experiencing daily rainfall exceeding 100mm, adding significant complexity to the task. Road surfaces were washed away, and the ground was saturated across much of the area, making access and establishment particularly challenging.

Despite these conditions, the Humanihut team approached every obstacle with determination and a solutions-focused mindset, working swiftly to deliver the essential facilities needed to support the broader relief effort.
